Derrick Mason Remembered by Randy Lewis

Derrick Mason was a breakfast runner when I arrived on death row back in 2007….We cliqued real well, we instantly became friends. We talked and laughed about any and everything. I had no family support, but every time Derrick caught store he purchased me something. He allotted me a few of his work days so that I would be able to have extra food to eat. Derrick became my first brother here on Life Row.

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 4.19.17

While we and the rest of the world watching the unfolding horror in Arkansas, hoping that our friends have used their voices to speak out, we have also been keeping our focus on Alabama. As you know we have 2 upcoming executions and we also have a new Governor. While we have yet to find out about Governor Ivey’s stand on clemency we firmly believe that she has to be more evolved than her predecessor who stated that he would never grant clemency.

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 3.29.17

Under the able leadership of our Chairman the Board has begun to take a closer look at our history. Over the past 28 years we have had leaders who could be the envy of any free world organization. And yes, we have stories to tell, amazing stories and we are determined to tell them. We want to tell them so that we do not forget our history and the men who are no longer with us and also so we might learn from them and be inspired. We are proud and grateful to our trailblazers and founding fathers.

Alabama lawmakers will vote next month on whether to prohibit a judge from imposing a death sentence when a jury has recommended life imprisonment.

The Alabama House of Representatives is scheduled to debate the bill on April 4 when lawmakers return from a two-week spring break. The Senate has already approved the measure. The bill is third on the proposed debate agenda for the day.

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Alabama Death Row inmate Vernon Madison can't be executed.

To begin with a positive, we were delighted to see the AP article published today about Senator Hank Sanders. Lone lawmaker crusades against the death penalty in Alabama. There is absolutely no doubt that who Senator Hank Sanders is and what he does has made it possible for us not to give up hope over the years. He has encouraged us not just by words but by deeds. We are forever in his debt!
