ALABAMA VIGILS ON DAY OF EXECUTION 10.5.17

Oct
03

Friends,

The State has appealed the stay of execution for Jeffrey Borden to the U.S. Supreme Court. If the U.S. Supreme Court should lift the stay here are the vigils around the state this Thursday. Please also note that on Thursday JAM will hold its 11:30-1:00 p.m vigil whether the stay is lifted or not. (see below)

Please support them and remember that it is not too late to call, email or fax the Governor and that it is never too late to protest all killing. PHONE 1-334-242-7100     FAX: 1-334-242-328

Alabama plans to go forward with the scheduled executions while there is still an unresolved issue before the court. We wish we could say that we are surprised but unfortunately knowing Alabama’s love for the death penalty we are not and this  makes it all the more important that WE ACT! NOW!

The attorney for Gary Otte who was executed last week by the state of Ohio stated that she believed that the inmate suffered pain during lethal injection. She tried but was unable to get help to stop the execution. Ohio, like Alabama uses midazolam in its execution protocol. In addition, more bad news also for us was that the U.S. Supreme Court denied a request for a stay even though Otte had been under the age of 21 at the time of the crime.

"Well, I'm kind of fond of the death penalty," said Rich. "I think we need the death penalty in the state of Alabama, so we're continuing to fight the Equal Justice Initiative and big law firms who have millions of dollars and want to come down here and reverse all of our death penalty cases." Ashley Rich is the Mobile County District Attorney.
