Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison, 1.6.16

At this point the execution date for Christopher Brooks remains active and we have sent out an Execution Alert asking all to contact Governor Bentley to ask for a stay. We thank all who have shared the petition for Christopher Brooks and all those who have already contacted the Governor. The petition is up on our website as well as on our face book page. On our website you can find it under Execution Alerts, and on  face book it is anchored on our page.

We remembered Donnis G. Musgrove who died last week of cancer. It is especially tragic as he was close to finally having his strong innocence claims heard. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

We are very sorry to have to report that Christopher Brooks was called to the Warden’s office and given a January 21st execution date. "This action is premature," wrote John Palombi in an email. Palombi is an assistant federal defender for the Middle District of Alabama who represents Brooks. "A final evidentiary hearing for the other five plaintiffs is scheduled for April 19, 2016, less than five months away.” The Board is in the process of crafting a petition which we will be releasing shortly.

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison, 11.18.2015

This week our thoughts and prayers were with our friends and supporters of Francophones contre la peine de mort  in Paris and with friends of ACAT-France who for many years now join us in prayer on the nights of an execution here in Alabama. With every taking of life, whether it is an execution, a terrorist attack or a murder, it is always the human face that makes the horror real, “the one that breaks one’s heart.”
