Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 7.27.16
The Attorney General’s office has asked the Alabama Supreme Court to set an execution date for Tommy Arthur as soon as possible. This would be Tommy Arthur’s seventh date. This, in spite of the fact that many issues with the constitutionality of Alabama’s death penalty and execution protocol remain unresolved. “Arthur's attorneys suggested the firing squad as one alternate method. The attorneys also suggested lethal injection by pentobarbital and sodium thiopental. State officials have argued that the state no longer has a supply of those two drugs and that's why they had to find another lethal injection drug combination.
“State officials won't reveal where they get their supply of drugs, although the major manufacturers of the drugs have said they won't supply them for executions.”
Meanwhile at Holman the death squad execution team has resumed practice.
The Florida Hurst issue with its implications for our state continues to give us hope. We have posted a detailed explanation of the ruling on our website www.phadp.org and appreciate the Board for its great work on this complicated issue.
Last Saturday Kairos hosted a fish fry for Holman death row and we can’t thank them enough. It was delicious!
See you next week!
