Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 10.26.16

We are hoping for a stay for Thomas Arthur before or on November 3rd but would like to draw your attention to this vigil in Birmingham on that day, which will take place whether there is a stay or not.

Political Protest Vigil corner of Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd and 8th Ave N across from the Jefferson County Court Building, on the corner of the east end of the Birmingham Museum of Art. 11:30 a.m.- 1:00 p.m., sponsored by JAM. All invited! "Watch with Me One Hour." This Vigil will take place whether there is a stay or not.

We were encouraged to learn that Harvard College medical ethicists filed a brief this month with the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit outlining an argument in support of Thomas Arthur. We are also encouraged by several national articles addressing the decline of the death penalty, however much as we would agree with the conclusions reached by the various journalists we are faced with 2 execution dates, one of them only a week away so our question is WHEN?

And finally and most importantly please do your part and contact the Governor about the upcoming executions, in particular Thomas Arthur whose date is November 3rd!  http://www.phadp.org/?q=alerts Thank you to all of you, individuals as well as organizations like the Alabama State Conference of the NAACP, Lifespark and Oppose who have already done so and shared the appeal with their members.  Thank you also to the Francophones for posting a translation in French of the appeal for Thomas Arthur on their page, which was shared at least seven times and of course most importantly for acting!

 See you next week,
                                                             Esther
