Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 11.22.17

Last Thursday Vernon Madison was called to the Warden’s office and told that the State of Alabama has set January 25th as the date when it will execute him. A couple of weeks ago we quoted Justice Breyer on Vernon and we thought we would do so again: “Mr. Madison is now 67 years old. He has lived nearly half of his life on death row. During that time he has suffered severe strokes, which caused vascular dementia and other significant physical and mental problems. He is legally blind. His speech is slurred. He cannot walk independently. He is incontinent. His disability leaves him without a memory of his commission of a capital offense.” And this is who we execute?  Does Alabama love killing that much? And the answer when we look back at its bloody history and its actions of today is: YES!

A great big thank you to the men of Kairos who spent last Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Holman! Not only was there a retreat which all who attended enjoyed but there were gift bags for all on death row. What a wonderful way to celebrate an early Thanksgiving!

As we all know Christmas seems to come right after Thanksgiving and so we have posted our Christmas card list on Facebook for our friends. We are always touched by the generosity of individuals and groups who want to reach out to us at this time of year. Please know that those cards do make a difference.

A great big thank you to our Development Officer, Brandon Fountain! You let us know that our Donate button on our website was no longer working and Brandon wasted no time and created a new one. Here it is: http://phadp.org/?q=donate# you can give on online or by check. Many thanks!

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. We are thankful for all of you who support us. We wish you a happy Thanksgiving!

See you next week and please don’t forget: VOTE OR DIE!
