Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 12.27.17

Our last Board Meeting of the year! A time to look back, a time to look forward! What do we see looking back? Nationally there appears to be progress, some of it thanks to pharmaceutical companies’ unwillingness to be complicit in state killings and to a shift in national support of the death penalty all of which is attributable to the hard work of many both here and abroad. Looking at Alabama, and that is after all where we are,  we see 3 executions, passage of the unfair Fair Justice Act and the Judicial Override bill which is not, as it is in Florida, retroactive and does not require a unanimous jury. Progress in Alabama? We don’t see it! Neither do we see it looking forward to 2018 where we already have 2 scheduled executions. However looking back and looking forward would not be complete if we did not mention one of our huge assets, our valiant pro-bono attorneys who continue to stand with us in this fight for our lives. And of course all of you who are taking the time to read this!

As we close out this year we would ask for your support in getting the word out and contacting Governor Ivey on behalf of Vernon Madison whose execution date is 1.25.18 and  Doyle Lee Hamm whose execution date is 2.22.18. The Talking Points for both men are up on our Facebook page as well as on our website www.phadp.org under Execution Alerts. http://www.phadp.org/?q=alerts   We hope that you will contact Governor Ivey and BE THE OTHER VOICE!

See you next week!
