Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 3.14.18

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 3.14.18

Michael Eggers, a man with a history of severe mental illness, is scheduled to be executed tomorrow. His former attorneys who he fired have filed an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court asking for a stay. We hope that you will call Governor Ivey and ask the Governor to halt all executions.

As always on the day before the execution the men held their vigil today on the yard. Although temperatures were on the chilly side it was well attended and the men felt uplifted by the words spoken and shared.

According to court records, the State and Doyle Lee Hamm's attorney Bernard Harcourt are in "substantial and very serious settlement discussions, and believe that this case can be settled in the near future." We will keep you updated.

The latest edition of our newsletter Wings of Hope is on its way to you. It is already up on our website and also on our Facebook page thanks to our faithful webmaster Brandon Fountain.

Esther tabled at the Savery Library of Talladega College Community Fair and appreciated Advisory Board Member Judy Collins accompanying her. We were pleased to see flyers announcing Gary Drinkard’s presentation this week and appreciated being invited to leave information for students. In an email thanking us for coming Librarian Allen McQueen wrote: “I have your information out for the students to pick up. When I'm in the Reference Room, I'll steer them to it.” Thank you Mr.McQueen!
