Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 4.18.18

Tomorrow Walter Leroy Moody is scheduled to be executed. Please, if you have not already done so, contact Governor Ivey to protest this killing, all killings. There are many opportunities to be the Other Voice but none is more important than at the time of an execution.

We sent out the scheduled vigils for tomorrow earlier this week and we thank the Alabama State Conference of the NAACP and ACAT France for forwarding it to their members.

When our organization was founded 29 years ago part of its mission was to reach out to a developmentally delayed inmate. We are proud to say that we have not forgotten this and do our best to reach out also to the psychiatric and more difficult to reach inmates once a date has been set. Inmate to inmate, offering canteen items and perhaps even more importantly a willingness to listen, really listen.

Today before the meeting the men held their vigil. It was well attended. This too is part of our tradition.

Esther meanwhile was interviewed by Brittany Willie Jo of CBS 42 about the death penalty in general and tomorrow’s execution. When asked what people can do right now she asked listeners to call the Governor.
