Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 3.6.19

Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 3.6.19

Board meetings continue to be held on a weekly basis and Esther continues to be a participant. We will write reports when we feel that we would like to draw your attention to special events or to newsworthy items.

As some of you will already know the State of Alabama set a new execution date.  The date is for Christopher Lee Price and his execution is scheduled for 4.11.19.  Unfortunately Christopher Price is one of the men who failed to choose the new execution method of nitrogen gas last summer and so having exhausted his appeals became a candidate for execution. We have posted the Execution Alert on our website and it is up on our Facebook page as well.

Our latest edition of Wings of Hope is up on our website, on our Facebook page and is also in the mail and should have reached most of you. Another great job, also thank you Brandon!

Esther received the “Distinguished Humanitarian Award” from the Alabama State Conference of the NAACP for her role as” NAACP Death Penalty Chairwoman for her dedication and long years of service.” It was a great evening and our thanks and appreciation to all.

On Monday Esther did a videotaped interview with Alabama Arise’s Executive Director Robyn Hayden. It is one of many such planned tapings by Arise with member organizations around the state. What can we learn from each other and how can we help each other? Even without any current anti-death penalty bills in the legislature it is good to work together on anti-poverty and anti-racism bills both of which evils are also driving factors of the death penalty.

In closing and as I am sure some of you will have gathered I am continuing to function as before and doing all I did before. So why the changes you may wonder? I did it because I realized that as I was the only one who could organize a smooth transition it was my responsibility to do this while I still could. Meanwhile I am grateful that I can still work to Keep Hope Alive and will do this for as long as I can.
