Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 2.12.20

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 2.12.20

As previously stated the State of Alabama set March 5th as the execution date for Nathaniel Woods. There are many issues about this date first and foremost that Nathaniel was not the shooter, that his representation at trial was definitely ineffective and that some issues that should have been raised later were time barred due to ineffective assistance of counsel who had abandoned him without informing him that he had. Justice Alabama style!

We have sent out the Talking Points and information on how to contact the Governor to ask for clemency and as always they are posted on our website. We suggested that you use the Governor’s statement “All Life is Sacred” although people on death row are apparently excluded! Our thanks to those who already contacted the Governor in particular to Mark who joined us and contacted her right away! We are in touch with Pamela Woods, Nathaniel’s sister who organized a petition to save her brother’s life. We encourage you to sign it! http://chng.it/pfRTFcW42h and to share it, as we have done, with friends on Facebook. We appreciate being able to work with a very committed family member.

We heard from the Catholic Mobilizing network regarding their Action Alert on behalf of Nathaniel Woods and we thank and appreciate their work!

Our thanks also to Advisory Board Member Judy Collins who encouraged the congregation of the Unitarian Universalists of Auburn to contact the Governor on behalf of Nathaniel Woods.

So far our quarters at Holman remain the same but we are looking ahead and have started writing our articles for the next edition of Wings of Hope earlier than usual. We are determined to meet any challenges and believe planning will help us to do just that. Our mood remains positive!

As at every meeting we spent time discussing death penalty developments around the country, many of them encouraging which we hope will eventually influence Alabama’ law makers. We are fortunate that our Advisory Board Member, Robert Wilson sends us weekly information packets which keep us up to date. Thank you Robert!

And thank you Browder Ministries for the delicious sandwiches! We really enjoyed them!

And in closing and as always, we continue to thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Our thanks to all who believe in what we do and stand with us. You make all the difference!
