Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 8.18.21

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 8.18.21

The gas chamber is still making news and we are glad that it is. We couldn’t agree more with Robert Dunham of the DPIC who wrote regarding the refusal of the DOC to reveal any details: “Alabama won’t describe nitrogen execution plans, claiming security concerns. It is hard to imagine that these purported security concerns about the construction of a nitrogen gas execution chamber are anything but a pretext for secrecy. This is all about evading public scrutiny and avoiding accountability. “ And so the more public scrutiny the better! Here is the link to the petition Say No to Gas Chamber: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/say-no-to-the-gas-chamber?source=dir... thanks to our friends at Death Penalty Action Network.

We appreciate and thank the group Research on Alabama Executions that has sent their letter to which many groups had signed on to FDR Safety and Clinical Pharmacology Services. When they received no reply they escalated and sent their letter to the professional societies that FDR Safety and Clinical Pharmacology Services are members of. They are engaging with a few of the societies who wrote back.

The 2021 Arise Annual Meeting at which members choose the 7 focus areas will be an all-remote meeting starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 25th. Here is important information regarding the Annual Meeting: They will use an online cumulative voting system called ElectionBuddy to cast our votes and each member group can designate up to six representatives to receive seven votes each. Can you help us and be one of our representatives so that the Death Penalty Moratorium remains one of the focus issues? Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to be one of our representatives as I have to submit the names and contacts to Arise by September 17th. Now more than ever we need your help!

In closing and as always, we continue to thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. You encourage us and make all the difference. Stay safe and wear a mask!
