Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 3.23.22

Weekly Report from the Board Meeting at Holman Prison 3.23.22

We are putting the tablets to good use! They make it possible for us to be in touch with interested individuals on the outside who are looking for specific information for research or articles and who appreciate it coming directly from those affected. Although the information may not be any different when it comes from our home office as Esther is in touch with the Chairman on a daily basis even when out of town, yet it gives us not only a hands on feeling but also that we are easing Esther’s work load while she is dealing with family sickness. Of course as always she is only an email away and as always we are family and take care of each other.

For quite some time now we have hoped that there could be a chapter of Equal Justice Initiative’s organization Conservatives Concerned About the Death Penalty in Alabama. As a very red state we know that there are not only many conservatives in this state but we also know from our personal knowledge that there are many who are not only concerned but who are also against the death penalty. We would not expect this chapter to work miracles but do believe that it is important for these other voices to be heard.

We are receiving requests for our research document on the issue that Alabama is the only state that does not have the Equal Protection Clause in its constitution. Some of the requests are from out of state attorneys who are representing men on Alabama’s death row and of course we respond to all.

Congratulations to our Legal Research Assistant Hannah Swenson who was elected the Editor-in-Chief of the Gonzaga Journal of International Law for 2022-2023.

Meanwhile we hope that you have either received or are about to receive the latest edition of Wings of Hope. As always lots of dedicated work made it happen and we trust that this is reflected in the finished product!

In closing and as always, we continue to thank all our generous donors who either gave by going to our website and using the “donate” button or who gave directly. Thank you also to all who took the time to read our notes, commented, liked and shared them on Facebook. You encourage us and make all the difference. Stay safe!
