As expected Governor Kay Ivey signed into law a bill that would allow execution by nitrogen hypoxia if lethal injection is unavailable or is declared unconstitutional or if the prisoner elects nitrogen hypoxia as the method of execution.

 Michael Eggers, a man with a history of severe mental illness, is scheduled to be executed tomorrow. His former attorneys who he fired have filed an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court asking for a stay. We hope that you will call Governor Ivey and ask the Governor to halt all executions.

As we write this it is only 8 days until Michael Eggers’ scheduled execution. Michael Eggers was transferred to Holman Monday morning. We respect his wishes when we don’t ask you to request clemency when you call Governor Ivey, however we hope that you will call and ask the Governor to halt all executions.

A federal judge has stayed the lethal injection of Doyle Lee Hamm in order to have an independent medical expert review his claims that he is too sick to be executed. Chief U.S. District Judge Karon Bowdre issued the written ruling Tuesday.

The State is preparing to execute Vernon Madison tomorrow, a man who not only is severely physically and emotionally handicapped but who received Alabama style justice. To be specific, Vernon Madison’s 3 trials were replete with prosecutorial misconduct, tainted racist jury selections and in the third trial 8-4 judicial override of life without the possibility of parole. Alabama style justice!

On this upcoming Saturday we will be in Selma at the Selma Center for Nonviolence participating in the annul SOS retreat. As always it will be a great opportunity to meet with leaders from various Alabama organizations much bigger than ours who are engaged in “bringing about a change in our lifetime”. We will be distributing the Talking Points for the 2 upcoming executions and asking for support.
